Graham Roberts was born in Brisbane and grew up at Red Hill.
Robbo, as he is known on the Airwaves, commenced his Radio Career as a Young 19 year old Cadet Announcer in the South Western Town of Roma in Qld at 4ZR. Learning all the basic things from servicing Clients to writing and producing the commercials for Air. He moved around different country Stations - 4GY Gympie and 2GF in Grafton twice, before landing an Announcing Job at 4BH in Brisbane, in 1968. He spent some 4 Years learning the Trade in the Country before reaching the City. He says that is so important for young Announcers, but today they don’t seem to get that experience.
After 13 Months at 4BH, he received a wonderful break to join Sydney’s Rock Station 2SM. This he says got his Career really moving. He spent some 5 Years with 2SM doing the 7 till 10 pm Night Shift for 4 of those Years. Nights on 2SM were fabulous, he says - I got to talk to and meet some of the Super Stars of Music... John Farnham, Brian Cadd, Daryl Braithwaite to name a few Aussies. Noddy Holder from Slade, Roy Orbison a beautiful guy, Jose Feliciano and Michael Jackson and many more.
Robbo decided to return to his home town, Brissy as he calls it, in late 1973, with Wife, Dianne and young Son, Mark. He joined Brisbane Rock Station 4IP. He spent 5 Years with 4IP - 3 of those on the Popular Brekky Shift (The Brekky Club). He then moved literally across the Road to 4BC and did the Drive Shift for 3 years before ending his 20 year Radio Career.
He then decided to go in to Business, and joined McDonald’s, with whom he had 2 Restaurants for a period of 25 Years before Retiring in 2007.
Robbo and Dianne have 2 Boys, Mark and Trent, and a Daughter, Amanda, who all are grown up with Families of their own... Robbo and Di now have 5 Grand Children.
Robbo loving Radio, decided in Retirement, it would be good to get back into it and no better than Hits and Memories 101. He can be heard on Drive 4 till 6pm, Tuesdays and Morning Magazine, Thursdays 9 till 12 Midday.
